MAKESHIFT SIDE HITS HAMILTON FOR SIX
HAMILTON (3rd XV) 5-40 BANNOCKBURN (1st/2nd XV)
Some impressive play from the 'Burn backs helped them to a six try win over a Hamilton 3rd XV at Laigh Bent on Saturday.
A raft of call-offs led to 'Burn travelling with 14 men. Fortunately Hamilton had a big squad and offered to provide a player to make up the numbers.
NICK WALES, man of the match in the win over Alloa the previous week, picked up where he left off by opening the scoring with a well-worked try on the right flank. Captain JOHN DAWSON added the extras with a well-struck conversion.
Stand-off ANDY COWAN extended 'Burn's lead when he pounced on a loose ball under the home posts to claim the score - Dawson again converted.
Dawson claimed a try of his own shortly after, collecting a Cowan pass and jinking past a despairing tackle to dot down under the posts. His conversion took the score to 21-0.
There was time for 'Burn to claim a fourth try before half-time, when flanker RYAN LYDON took a ball a few metres short of the home line and managed to sneak under the cover defence. Dawson again converted.
The second half followed a similar pattern to the first with the two packs proving evenly matched but Bannockburn's backs providing a constant threat.
Full-back Wales claimed his second score of the game after some good work by LEE CAMERON and Dawson made it 38-0 with a breakout score from 'Burn's own 22. His conversion took the visitor's points total to 40.
Hamilton had the final word, claiming a well-deserved try with the last move of the match.
This was an enjoyable game, played in good spirits, and 'Burn can look forward to welcoming a Hamilton side to Bluebellwood for a return fixture in the near future.
